37degrees, Inc. selected for Health Engine Cohort XI, UC Berkeley's accelerator for early-stage healthcare startups

37degrees, Inc. has been selected for Cohort XI of Health Engine, the UC Berkeley-based accelerator for early-stage healthcare startups. We join eleven other health-tech companies in a cohort that spans clinical-trial software, diagnostics, medical devices, mental health and mRNA manufacturing — and the only one building connected instruments and software for the life-science lab itself.

Health Engine gives 37degrees a direct connection to Berkeley and the Bay Area, one of the world’s deepest concentrations of life-science research, biotechnology and venture capital. We are now in the midst of the program, using it and the ecosystem around it to put CultureON 100 and the OMĒOS data platform in front of Bay Area scientists, partners and investors.

About Health Engine

Health Engine logo: a white rocket with a DNA-helix tail on a pink-to-orange gradient.

Health Engine backs exceptional pre-seed and seed-stage healthcare startups, and its motto sums up why it exists: building in healthcare is messy.

The program runs two cohorts a year. Each is free, non-dilutive and three months long, and since its first cohort Health Engine has built a track record that speaks for itself [1]:

100+

startups accelerated

$370M+

raised by alumni companies

$1B+

portfolio valuation

Each company in the cohort gets [1]:

  • A founder community and a weekly stand-up, where founders share wins, losses and tips.
  • Workshops with mentors and guest speakers — this cohort has included a session with the Mayo Clinic accelerator.
  • Clinical connections and investor introductions.
  • A designated point person on the Health Engine team.
  • Demo Day at the end of the cohort, pitching to investors, healthcare leaders and students.

Health Engine’s partner network reaches across the Berkeley and Bay Area innovation ecosystem, including Berkeley SkyDeck, the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology (SCET), Nucleate, NVIDIA, Google Cloud and Pear VC [1].

Cohort XI

Health Engine announced Cohort XI as twelve health-tech startups [2]:

37degrees, Inc.

Connected instruments and software for life-science labs

ClinAI

Clinical-trial vendor selection, RFPs, budgets and financial tracking

ayna

A personalized women’s health marketplace

Auvi Labs

A wearable ultrasound patch monitoring kidney function in dialysis patients

Radley Health

Engagement and mentorship for adults living with serious mental illness

Neural Wave

Together the cohort spans the whole arc of healthcare, from the research lab to the clinic to the patient at home. 37degrees works at the start of that arc: the lab, where new biology is discovered, measured and validated.

In our words

“Health Engine puts us alongside founders tackling healthcare from every angle — from the lab to the clinic to the home — and connects us directly to the Bay Area’s research community, where scientists are already asking for instruments that connect, record and analyze on their own. We’re grateful to the Health Engine team for selecting us, and we’re making the most of every week of the program.”

— Tilak Jain, CEO, 37degrees

Working with Berkeley and the Bay Area

37degrees builds modular, IoT-native instruments and an AI-ready data layer that connect devices, data, analysis and decisions — freeing scientists to focus on biology rather than tools. Chicago, at Portal Chicago, remains our headquarters and our base for application development. Health Engine gives us a direct connection to the West Coast, and we are putting it to work:

  • Pilots with Bay Area labs. Putting CultureON 100, our portable CO₂ incubator, and OMĒOS into the hands of Bay Area research groups and core facilities, on their own cells and their own protocols.
  • Research partnerships. The Bay Area is home to UC Berkeley, UCSF, Stanford, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a dense network of research institutes. Our NIH-funded programs — PamON for label-free 3D imaging of living tissue constructs and InVitreON for long-term culture, recording and stimulation of living neurons — are built for exactly the kinds of scientists who work there.
  • Industry and clinical connections. South San Francisco and the wider Bay Area hold one of the largest clusters of biotechnology companies in the world. Health Engine’s clinical connections and partner network give us a direct line to the teams developing new therapies and diagnostics.
  • Founder relationships. We meet with our fellow Cohort XI founders every week — trading wins, setbacks and introductions — and are building relationships that will last well beyond the program.
  • Investor relationships. Health Engine’s investor introductions and Demo Day put 37degrees in front of the Bay Area’s healthcare and deep-tech investors.
  • Scientific AI and GPU computing. As a member of the NVIDIA Inception Program — NVIDIA is also a Health Engine partner — we are bringing GPU-accelerated analysis and scientific AI into everyday biological workflows through OMĒOS.

Pilot CultureON and OMĒOS in the Bay Area

CultureON 100, a compact white two-module incubator with the 37degrees logo on its lid, its front display reading 37 °C, 5% CO₂ and 95% RH, on a lab bench.

Now piloting in the Bay Area

CultureON 100 + OMĒOS

  • Holds 37 °C and CO₂ on battery for more than 8 hours, with no gas line or wall socket.
  • About 5 lb. Carry live cultures between labs, cores and buildings.
  • OMĒOS logs every reading and lets you watch and control the run from anywhere.

If you run a lab, a core facility or a cell-based program anywhere from Berkeley to South San Francisco to Palo Alto, we would like to hear from you. A pilot is a short, practical trial on your own work — moving live cells between buildings without losing temperature or CO₂, running a culture right next to an instrument, or watching an experiment from your phone with a full record of the conditions your cells actually saw.

Thank you to the whole Health Engine team for welcoming us into Cohort XI, and congratulations to our fellow founders. See you at Demo Day!
